Portfolio Website Design
This project involved designing and developing a personal portfolio website for a Data Science Engineer to professionally showcase their technical skills, project work, and resume. The client wanted a platform that highlighted their expertise in machine learning, data analysis, and AI, while maintaining a clean and modern design that speaks to both recruiters and collaborators.
Role: UI/UX Designer | Web Designer and Developer
Tools: Figma, Wix Studio
Problem
The client lacked an online presence beyond LinkedIn and GitHub. His work was impressive but scattered across platforms and lacked a narrative or context. The main challenge was to:
-
Present his technical projects in a digestible, narrative-driven format
-
Create a professional identity through visual design
-
Ensure mobile responsiveness and a smooth user experience
-
Balance aesthetics with functionality for a diverse audience (recruiters, peers, hiring managers)
Goals
-
Create a visually appealing and easy-to-navigate personal website
-
Highlight data science and machine learning projects with interactive visualizations
-
Integrate a blog section for writing about data topics
-
Provide clear access to resume, GitHub, and LinkedIn
-
Ensure full responsiveness and performance optimization
User Research
Stakeholder Interview
I conducted a one-on-one discussion with Devanshu to understand his:
-
Career goals and target audience
-
Key skills and tools (Python, ML, SQL, AWS, Tableau, etc.)
-
Existing portfolio pain points
-
Preferences for tone and personality in the design

Competitive Benchmarking
I analysed portfolios from top-tier data scientists and machine learning engineers on platforms like Medium, Behance, and GitHub Pages. The best portfolios:
-
Used clean, minimalist layouts
-
Had detailed case studies
-
Included visual aids like charts, diagrams, and embedded code

Audience Personas
I identified two main audiences:
-
Technical peers and hiring managers: Looking for proof of hands-on experience, code quality, and innovation
-
Non-technical recruiters: Interested in clarity, project outcomes, and visual appeal

UX Strategy
Information Architecture
-
Navigation was kept minimal and intuitive. Each section is scannable and purpose-driven.
-
Created a highlight projects section to showcase one of each type of project work
-
Clear headers for each section to ensure visual hierarchy

Visual Identity
-
Created a clean and cohesive visual identity for the website to showcase the client as a brand
-
Used simplified infographics and icons to display key information
-
UI Style: Card-based layout, soft shadows, subtle micro-interactions
